I came across hypnobirthing many years ago prior to my core training as a hypnotherapist. Back then, I was sceptical, but have since used it for the birth of my own son and seen many others experience the benefits.
Hypnobirthing is about empowering you to make informed choices, and feel confident, calm and in control during your birthing experience, whatever course that takes.
Hypnobirthing prepares you for all scenarios of birth. It doesn’t guarantee the perfect birth, but it always makes a difference to your experience.
I stayed at home for the birth of my son this year (2019), and felt first hand the power of self hypnosis. I practiced the self-hypnosis techniques to control and alter sensations in my body during surges. The time passed pretty quickly, and I remember feeling really focused, relaxed, and in control of my body. My birthing experience from active labour to meeting my son was about 3.5 hours. I didn’t need any pain relief other than hypnosis during this time and had my Mum, my birthing partner, giving me encouragement and support when needed. Childbirth certainly wasn’t “text book perfect” (and as we’re real people, nothing ever will be!), but it was an incredible and positive experience, one that I recall smiling with a wonderful warm fuzzy feeling inside.
I work with men and women at all stages during their preparation for and transition into parenthood. I am passionate about positive birthing and parenting experiences, and believe that everyone can experience these in their own way. I also run a private counselling and hypnotherapy practice, and you can find information about how we can work together on other issues that may be affecting you at www.therapyshed.com.
I am accredited and registered with the relevant professional bodies, hold appropriate insurance, and follow the codes of conduct of my professional bodies, including committing to the process of ongoing professional development and supervision.
