One to one sessions offer a safe, confidential space to explore whatever is difficult or challenging in your life as well as what supports and inspires you. People come for individual sessions for many different reasons including:
Preparation for parenthood / planned caesarean – let go of unhelpful ideas, judgments and behaviours to feel positively prepared .
Physical wellbeing can be improved with hypnosis to manage pain, headaches, breast discomfort, morning sickness/hyperemesis and improving length and quality of sleep.
It can be used to increase positive states of mind; increase confidence, address depression and raise your overall level of happiness and enjoyment of life.
Bonding with baby – enhance your connection and increase your bond during the ante natal period.
Reassess your identity as an individual and/or as a couple, your life’s goals and what your priorities are to strengthen relationships.
Hypnotherapy and counselling techniques help quickly and effectively process uncomfortable/distressing emotions and reframe unhelpful thoughts, whether linked with traumatic past events/memories, worries and stress about current situations or fears for the future. With this process, the physical symptoms we can experience as a response to anxiety or trauma memories can quickly reduce and disappear.
I frequently work with people to address; worries about complications in pregnancy, fears about childbirth, phobias of needles and past birth trauma.
Post natal support
Becoming a parent can be fulfilling and enjoyable, but it can also feel like an emotional rollercoaster. Parenthood is surrounded by myths about what it takes to be a good mother or father, about how to ensure your child thrives, about what material things you need, and about how a good mother or father should think, feel and act so that your child is successful and happy.
For some women and men, parenthood can continue to feel very daunting and overwhelming after the initial few days/weeks. Perhaps childbirth or holding your baby for the first time was not the wonderful experience you were hoping for, you feel life has little worth but can’t explain why, or you feel like whatever you do is wrong or ‘not good enough’.
It is important that as a woman or a man you have the right support available to enable a smooth transition to parenthood so that you can enjoy the experience. Throughout the world, post natal depression (PND) and anxiety (PNA) disorders affect 15-20 percent of new mothers; and 1 in 4 men can also show symptoms. PND and PNA can impact on individuals at one of the most pivotal times of life, it is vital that you receive appropriate support. We empower our clients to recognise and overcome them, and to regain a sense of control in their lives.
New mums sometimes find that although they’re wanting to focus on their baby, they feel stuck because of the birth they experienced. Perhaps things didn’t go according to plan, or it felt like you had lost control.
A few of the many signs of post trauma stress as a result of childbirth include; unwanted memory recall of the event, feeling ‘on edge’, confused, tearful or anxious, feeling distressed when remembering the event, avoidance thinking about the event, loss of interest in usual activities, relational issues (inc. bonding with baby).
Birth partners play a vital role in advocating and supporting a labouring mother when choices and changes are afoot during childbirth. When thing don’t go to plan, birth partners bear witness and may themselves feel overwhelmed, scared, stressed, confused and powerless, requiring guidance and encouragement. They may also experience trauma as a result of this, which can frequently go unrecognised.

What to expect
Every person comes to therapy with their own unique life experience, and the therapeutic approaces are creative and flexibile to support you in achieving in you desired outcomes. I work providing both short and longer term support, depending on your prferences and needs.
In therapy, one of the aims is to consider and explore different aspects of life, including how our past informs the present as well as the different relationships we form in life. This can help to create some clarity and awareness of your life experience and have a positive effect on all areas of your life by offering the possibility of change.
In many situations, it is helpful to address issues with a combination of hypnotherapy and counselling, and this would be agreed with you along with your preferences. Hypnotherapy differs from counselling in that in many circumstances we can work on issues and make the changes you wish to make, content free, meaning you won’t need to talk in any detail about the issue or problem faced.
In a hypnotherapy session, I will guide you into a relaxed, focused state and ask you to think about experiences and situations in positive ways that can help you change the way you think and behave. Unlike some dramatic portrayals of hypnosis in movies, books, or on stage, you will not be unconscious, asleep, or in any way out of self-control. You will hear the therapist’s suggestions, but it is up to you to decide whether or not to act on them.
How I work
I use an integrative approach to therapy, which means that my work is informed by more than one approach and that no single one is held above the others. These include; Transactional Analysis, Ericksonian, Solution-focused, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centred, Gestalt, Neuroliguistic Programming, Emotional Freedom Technique, Timeline and EMDR Plus. I make no charge for the first session, where in confidence we can discuss the issues that you would like to address and the best way forward for you. This appointment is usually 30 minutes long. Click here to book your initial session.
Sessions are usually 60 minutes at £40 and usually held weekly or fortnightly, unless otherwise agreed.
